Black Maternal Health Week: Annual Block Party, Walk, Concert, Summit
In partnership with the City of Atlanta, we host an annual one-day community engagement maternal healthcare event. ~1000+participants it includes a morning walk, a maternal health information village-sponsors, community-based organizations, and vendors give away products, information, and highlight services across the maternal health spectrum, and a Kids Funzone. The day celebrates family: music, interactive events/games/panels/giveaways for attendees to learn more about childbirth and provide them with proper resources and tools before giving birth. All registrants are provided free lunch.
- GOAL : Expansion of attendance and activities to include a national recording artist concert and multi-day to include a conference: speakers/workshops, art show, and a potential innovation summit

Community Block Parties/Baby Showers (Launch 2025)
Co-ed baby shower celebrations that provide both fun and educational resources/gifts to both parents.
- GOAL : Host ~3 events: 2 outside of ATL
4KiraPages: Maternal Health Birth Spectrum Toolkit (Launch 2025)
A one-stop virtual directory/network hub of all thing’s maternal health. Content will provide parents, advocates, and families with info on how to: navigate the birthing process, mitigate a birthing crisis, and how to properly respond if a crisis arises. A network by city of: doctors, midwives, doulas, community-based orgs, community workers, and governmental agencies that provide maternal health services will be created.

4Kira4Moms Connect (OHCE)
Implicit Bias Training: Medical Health Equity POGIL
Our case based training, created in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University, adapts Kira’s case and medical records into an innovative training methodology to decrease the severity of implicit bias and increase the intent to practice with empathy, compassion, and respectable care amongst medical students and healthcare workers. This training promotes scalable and sustainable systemic change by nationally decreasing severe maternal morbidity and mortality amongst Black women. This program is adaptable and can be offered to other universities, hospitals, and in other clinical settings.

Advocacy Training: Personal Self-Advocacy & Policy Advocacy
Full day, interactive training based on Charles Johnson’s lived experience as a Maternal Mortality victim-his wife Kira’s tragic death after a botched C-Section and his life’s work as a Maternal Mortality Activist. This training is designed to ensure participants leave with practical self-advocacy skills and foundational knowledge to engage in policy advocacy, amplifying their ability to influence maternal health outcomes. The training splits into 2 tracks: Personal Self-Advocacy and Policy Advocacy, each lasting 4 hours.

4Kira4Dads Paternal Centers of Excellence (PCOE)
We believe that to eradicate maternal mortality a third pillar of the maternal health ecosystem is needed. It is a time to bring a focus to paternal education and well-being, so that they can be of service and advocate for mother and child. Paternal Centers of Excellence (PCOE) is open to all fathers however it is based on the worst cases of U.S. mortality rates-black women. It will educate, guide, and support men who are married to, are partners with, or love women as they navigate throughout their pregnancy, birth, and post-partum experiences. Our efforts are centered around giving men a voice to support, advocate for safe, quality care, and emotional well-being of women during and directly following pregnancy. 4Kira4Dads “Locker Rooms” will be the settings for our PCOE.

Maternal Mortality Response Team (MMRT)
A direct-response program offering wrap around services, resources, and trauma support within 24 hours of a loss (or near-miss event) of a mother during childbirth. Our team will provide essentials: like food, formula, diapers, baby supplies, household items, clothes, etc.; grief support; legal support; assistance with social services, and anything deemed critical for these families during their infant’s first year. To date we have helped over 100 families.

Project 2030 WHITE PAPER (Launch 2025)
At 4Kira4Moms, we are steadfast in our commitment to achieving the goal of zero preventable pregnancy-related deaths by the year 2030. To this end, we are convening a team of leading experts in maternal health to draft a visionary white paper outlining what the future of maternal health should look like in the United States by 2030. This paper will address the current barriers to optimal care and provide actionable recommendations for transforming clinical care, community support, and policy to improve maternal health outcomes and end the maternal health crisis within the next five years.

Alliance of Corporate Maternal Health Champions (Launch 2025/2026)
Develop an alliance of corporate brands dedicated to eradicating maternal mortality in the US by 2030.
Bring together a group of corporations who live by a set of corporate standards that advocate for maternal rights and ensure the women in their organization have the support and resources to have a healthy pregnancy, birth, and during post-partum. Standards such as: maternal advocacy legislation support, maternal advocacy efforts, pregnancy services covered by insurance, post-partum care, paid parental time-off, and childcare support will be used for membership. Through the collective efforts of the alliance, we will raise awareness of maternal mortality as a human rights issue; support of maternal health legislation and requirements; advocacy of alternative pregnancy services- doula and midwifery; advocacy of post-partum services; and raising of money to support non-profits and community-based organizations dedicated to eradicating maternal mortality. Capitol Hill Advocacy Day- A dedicated time for maternal health advocates and supporters to visit Capitol Hill in Washington D.C/state capitolsto to advocate on behalf of mothers, babies, and families.
MOMNIBUS Support
The Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act. The Act consists of 13 bills that will address the black material health crisis through historic investments that comprehensively address every driver of maternal mortality, morbidity, and disparities in the United States.
This includes, H.R.1212 – 117th Congress (2021-2022): Kira Johnson Act: This bill establishes grants to improve maternal health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority groups and other underserved populations. Specifically, the Department of Health and Human Services must award grants for community-based programs to improve maternal health outcomes for Black pregnant and postpartum individuals, as well as individuals in other underserved groups; training for health care providers and others who work in maternity care settings on reducing and preventing racism, bias, and discrimination; and respectful maternity care compliance programs in specified health care facilities. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine must study issues related to the training programs, and the Government Accountability Office must study issues related to the compliance programs.

Dads Matter Act Support
The Dads Matter Act of 2024 is a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Marco Rubio (R-FL). The legislation aims to improve maternal health outcomes by promoting fatherhood engagement. It directs the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to launch a public awareness campaign and provide guidance to states to encourage father involvement during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. It builds on previous efforts to address maternal mortality and improve family health.
- GOAL : Gain bipartisan support- additional Senate sponsors, House Bill and sponsors, and passage.
Advocacy Partnerships with peer organizations
Partner and scale advocacy effort and support for maternal health, infant health, and parenthood legislation with key partners: March of Dimes, Chamber of Mothers, and Count the Kicks
- GOAL: Participate in 3 Advocacy Days and/or campaigns to promote key legislation (examples: Paid Parental Leave, NIH Improve Act, Childcare Workforce and Facilities Act of 2023, Childcare for Every Community Act)
Establish GA local Dads Matter Act (Launch 2025)
Replicate Federal legislation for fathers in maternal health in the state of Georgia.
